Started in 1956, under the auspicious patronage of Shri Kalipada Bhattacharjee, today it’s one of the notable pujas in east Calcutta.
This puja follows a traditional theme of "Peace and Tranquility," the mandap itself being a symbol of that — mostly it’s white with decorations in red, blue or orange.
The idol too, along with lighting and cultural activities band the same tune all along the four days of the puja.
A major attraction of this puja is an "Arati Contest" on the evening of Maha Ashtami. Local participants as well as those from the adjoining areas in the age group of 8 to 40 years compete here every year — amidst a strong crowd to cheer them up.
